House Captain Application Help

So, it’s now the time for choosing house captain and I’ve done my house captain application but I don’t know if it reads professional and proper. Any edits and help would be widely appreciated ((I changed my School name for privacy to a random school I found))

During my 5 years at high school I have always enjoyed helping others as well as striving to do my best at anything and everything that I do. For me, the role of house captain is an honour and an opportunity which will allow me to ‘give something back’ to the school for all the support and encouragement that I have been given over the years. I would like to be a House Captain because it would open a lot of opportunities to have my say in the different events we run for interhouse or around school and give me insight on how my other peers would like to see the school run. It would also give me a really good leadership responsibility and hopefully give me a new learning experience on how to lead not only a group, but to see how a group works in different situations. I want to help motivate the school and bring people together. I want people to feel included into the school and as House Captain I think I will be able to achieve this. Another point on why I want to be a House Captain is that in the future I would like to be a leader of a company or my own brand and this will give me the inside knowledge on how to successfully do that with a group of like-minded pupils and teachers. I would also like this role as it has been an opportunity I have never got the chance to do before and I would like to challenge myself on the role of being a House Captain and what responsibility that entails. I would also like to be House Captain as I want to make the school more equal, in hosting different events promoting LGBT+ communities, people with disabilities, people who aren't well off. I want to create a space where everyone feels apart of a whole team.

Over the last 5 years at Hazlehead Academy, I have been given the opportunity to develop many of my skills and qualities, which if elected I would be able to bring to not only Craigievar house but the school as a whole. One quality is that i'm a responsible pupil and am well behaved I don't get levels and I never step out of line in class. This would help me in the role of a house captain as I would need to set an example to the younger years and, as i would be representing hazlehead, It would make the school look better. Another quality is my reliability as I have always handed in homework to the best of my ability and in clubs, such as the hazlehead alliance, library assistant over a few years and when trying to make new clubs to make the school more accessible for people who have different interests, and when in those clubs will gladly help out as much as i can. This would help me in the role of house captain as it proves that I am responsible in a role that is important and i can handle these on top of school work and I am able to try and include everyone and show up to meetings when needed. I have turned up to many meetings and events and done my job properly. I am also very organized as I have a study plan that I stick to every week and live life in a very organized fashion which helps me be reliable and punctual. I am also organized in my school uniform as I never wear non-school uniform and when it is cold worn a suitable black jumper. This would help me in my role as House Captain as it shows that I am very orderly and it would help make sure everything we plan is done well and make sure everything goes right. It would also be very useful in coping with the additional work and responsibilities of being a house captain. This also means I can balance all my courses and school work with my prefect duties. I strongly believe in equality and always try my best to include everyone in activities.I am also very punctual as I have never been late and am very rarely off ill and always turn up to my duties when needed. This would help in the role of house captain as it would mean that I would be always at school and be able to help out mostly all the time. This also means that I am someone you can rely on to be there at a meeting or event. Another quality I possess that make me a good candidate is that I am a team player and always bring in idea from the whole group. This also helps with my leadership, as I have learned throughout my time as a pupil at Hazlehead Academy, how to be a good leader and what aspects come with that. I think that will help me in the role as it shows i can work in a team and that i want not only our group to want to strive for more greater things, but for our school to do so too. which is a strength i feel would prove to be very useful in coping with the additional work and responsibilities of being a house captain. I strongly believe in equality and always try my best to include everyone in activities. Another quality I possess is that i can communicate well with others, I always spark up conversations with people and am open to people doing the same with me.

If I were appointed house captain I would have the chance to change aspects of the schools running and what we are able to do. One of my aims would make Craigievar House a house that promotes equality and inclusivity by having more equal opportunity to participate in interhouse. I would do this by aiming to have a 50/50 split of sport and non-sport groups. This in turn would motivate less sporty people to participate as I know people would like things such as a Crossword Puzzle or Chess instead of football. Another aim for the year is to have an assembly once a month talking about modern issues such as LGBT rights and knowledge, Autism Awareness Month and Mental health so pupils can have a more deeper connection with those talks and topics because it is coming from another pupil. I want to hold a lot of talks and encourage many others to came up and talk too. Another aim I would like to achieve is to make the school look good by getting our name out their through charity events and competitions. Another aim would to be more helpful around school and to pupils, either by holding help sessions for the younger years or helping motivate pupils to strive for greater things and be the best they can be. I also would want to show the younger years how good it can be to be a house captain and inform them of their responsibilities.

I feel like interhouse should be something a pupil wants to be in and not forced to be in as if they are forced they will enjoy it considerably less and choose to not take part in any interhouse after that. One way to motivate pupils is to know what people want. I think having a survey like last year was really good, it let people pick exactly what event they wanted to do, but I think there should be another one on what people think should be added. This will heighten interest as people get a say in what they want to do and it will motivate them into going to at least a couple interhouse events. Another way to motivate people is to tell them exactly what I want them to do, we will tell them what the event entails and what you will be doing and when they will go on. If people know exactly what they are doing it will give them more confidence when taking part in the event. Another way I will motivate people is to be a good role model, set an example, as people will follow a good leader and are inspired to take part if they see someone who is enjoying themselves and having a good time. That leads to my other point in which I would motivate pupils by making interhouse seem fun and inclusive. This will help motivate pupils as they will have a fear of missing out, they feel like they missed something fun and therefore want to participate in the next one. I will also motivate pupils by having posters and advertisements of interhouse to remind people how fun it is and what kind of events they can be in. These colourful display will help intrigue pupils and cause them to go for more interhouse events.

As a House Captain, you are also expected to fulfill your duties as a prefect. How would you manage the responsibilities of both? *

To help me in doing both of these duties to the best of my abilities I will make sure that both timetables of my duties do not collide into one another and make sure that I am fully capable of doing those times and those hours in my duties. I will also help manage my responsibilities by informing teachers of my timetable and house captain duties
